NAMS-CMS Certified Marine Surveyor

Richard Schiehl is a Certified Marine Surveyor (CMS), accredited by the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMSGlobal).

The National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMSGlobal), established in 1962, is a professional organization that certifies marine surveyors and provides continuing education opportunities.

NAMSGlobal’s membership is international and its Certified Marine Surveyor members carry the NAMS-CMS designation after their names.

From pleasure boats & yachts to commercial ships, NAMSGlobal marine surveyor members survey new and used vessels to determine their condition and value. NAMSGlobal surveyor members also survey cargo, machinery, docks, wharfs, marinas, and handling equipment related to the marine industry.

Additionally, NAMSGlobal marine surveyor members investigate marine claims and act as expert trial witnesses.

Thermal Imaging and NDT Ultrasonic Testing

Richard Schiehl holds a Level 1 Certification in Ultrasonic Testing and is certified to perform non-destructive thickness testing and failure analysis on metals including steel and aluminum hulls, scantlings, tanks, decks, superstructures, etc.

Richard was trained by Snell Infrared for Level 1 Radiometric Thermal Imaging.  The Snell Group is the world’s leading expert on using Infrared Thermography.

ABYC Certified Marine Corrosion Technician

Richard Schiehl was trained and certified in Marine Corrosion by the American Boat and Yacht Council in 2004 and was tested and re-certified in 2009 as required every five years.

Expert Witness and Legal Assistance

Richard Schiehl has been contracted on numerous occasions as an expert to testify in maritime related legal cases as well as perform much of the work leading to the mediation, arbitration or trial such as accident reconstruction, vessel standards compliance, physical investigation of evidence and non-destructive and destructive testing of materials and systems.

Richard also has extensive experience in the composition and formatting of Power Point, Flash, Dreamweaver and other Web and Non-Web based still and animated presentations.
